This blog starts on a VERY RAINY day on Friday October 30th. Lots and lots of flooding in the area......even our yard (again). The house was ok, but lots of damage to our yard and fence line. You could literally go tubing from our back yard to the neighbor's front yard. Had to think of something to keep up the sense of humor because we were NOT happy with this situation. Spent the afternoon getting stuff ready for our trip to Debi's tomorrow. We are going after the RV if weather permits.
Weather ok on the 31st so we headed north to get the RV. Busy busy day!!! Michael and I tackled cleaning the inside, while Lee and Austin concentrated on cleaning/washing the outside. Once we finished we got her all hooked up and pulled it out of the backyard and parked her in the driveway. We had already decided to spend the night...thank goodness because we were worn out. Austin had to go to work and Michael went to their new home. We headed indoors to relax!!! Even though we live fairly close, I was so glad we didn't have to head home after all that physical labor!! Up early on Sunday 11/1. Had some coffee, loaded up the truck with our personal items and headed home. We took the RV to storage. Now home for a much needed nap between the race and football games.
On Monday the 2nd Lee worked outside trying to fix some of the damage from the 16" of rain we had last week. Got a lot more to do, but it's a start. We still have heavy run off - 4 days now - with a lot of standing water. We decided our next "adventure" is to go into a 2 bedroom assisted living place. NO yard work and if something breaks - they can fix it. Tuesday was another labor intensive day. We took some items from the house to the RV -- a recliner, kitchen table and chairs. Also disconnected the fifth wheel hitch from the bed of the truck and put it in the RV. We will probably be very sore in several areas of our bodies tomorrow.....that thing is so heavy even being in 2 parts. We are getting too OLD for this heavy labor!!!
On Thursday the 5th, friends of ours - Roger and Darlene arrived for the weekend. They were originally from Chattanooga and in our camping club. They now live in Florida. We spent all day "catching up". After breakfast on Friday we took them to Gruene. Had a late lunch at the Gristmill.
On our way home we took them down River Road. WOW - I was NOT ready for the flood damage!!! That flood took out sections of several campgrounds, including some RVs. SO SAD!! As I've said before water is mean. On Saturday I put a pot roast in the crockpot. We just kicked back and relaxed all day and watched football games. They left early on Sunday morning to catch a flight out of Austin. Had a wonderful 3 day visit with them. Lee went to church to participate in Faith in Action day. Volunteers go out in the community to work on different projects. His was working on a ranch to cut trees/branches and general cleanup. Some folks are coming in January to help with the flood destruction in Wimberley. This is where they'll part their RVs.
On Wednesday the 11th I had an appointment for a checkup with my infusion doctor. He did bloodwork and gave me the first of two pneumonia shots. Will get the other one the first week of January. He scheduled another infusion (maybe 2) in December. That was not the news I wanted, but I'm ok with his decision.....really. I will do whatever is needed to protect myself from getting another outbreak!!! Took a ride over to Camping World on Thursday. Needed some closet and basement hooks. Also got a new door handle. On Friday the 13th we did some major cleaning on the RV. I worked inside cleaning out every cabinet, drawer, etc., washed everything and waxed the wood areas. Lee working cleaning out the basement areas, replaced the hooks and installed the new door handle. Didn't get our nap today, but we'll hit the sack early I'm sure. On Saturday the 14th we got our flu shots and Lee also got his pneumonia shot. He went to church to do some weed eating while I ran some errands.
While Lee did some computer reports for the church I went outside to mow the grass. After lunch we went to check out a swing/glider we've been looking at for months. This is something we both want, so we decided on the glider for a Christmas present to each other. Went on with the purchase because the weather is great this time of year so we can enjoy it now as some of the sunsets are incredible.
Went to Gruene market days on Saturday the 21st. Our favorite bbq sauce is sold there. We needed to stock up for the winter, because they won't be back until February. Not warm today....very cool with winds gusting at 45. The wind was so bad at the house it blew our Rock City bird house out of the tree and broke it in many many pieces. I definitely want another one, but I'll probably put it in the house. On Monday the 23rd we needed just a few items to complete our list for Thursday. Decided to go today--early--to beat the crowds expected tomorrow and Wednesday. Unbelievable!!!!! The store was packed. Add to that -- rude people and people on their phones!! Talk about an adventure!! I let Lee push the buggy because I was ready to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Got out safely thank goodness. We were so happy to arrive back at the homestead. While at the store we picked up makings for homemade chili, so Lee got busy cooking. Perfect meal for a cool day.
Debi came down on Wednesday the 25th. We made our usual trip to Bealls, but we rested most of the day in preparation for the festivities tomorrow. Thanksgiving Thursday the 26th. Had a great Thanksgiving feast with Michael, Austin, Debi, Chad and Andrea (Chad's friend). Meal consisted of a regular turkey, smoked turkey, ham and Chad brought prime rib. We had many, many vegetables, yeast rolls, 3 pies and Andrea brought delicious cupcakes. It was a GREAT day! Debi surprised us showing a DVD converted from an eight track of all our family members dating back to l988. Talk about memories!!!! More memories to celebrate on Sunday the 29th. That's the day Michael and Austin completed their move to Texas (last year).
It finally turned off warm again on Monday the 20th so we could get outside to cut back some dead plants and trim on a tree. Those "cold" days/nights did them in. On Friday and Saturday (4th & 5th) we spent time putting up Christmas decorations inside and out. Looks festive!!
Also worked on cleaning out the office closet. WHAT A MESS! It has been a "catch all" for a bunch of stuff. So glad we tackled that mess. It looks so much better.
Lee has been working on refinishing a cross from some cedar from our property. Turned out beautiful!!! On Monday (7th) he took it to church and put it in a meditation and prayer area on the hill beside the church. It's going to be a conversation piece for sure!!!
Got some Christmas shopping done on Friday (11th). Can't believe it's only a couple weeks away. I had a doctor's appointment with my other doctor on Monday (14th). I've had no issues. Because of that I was taken off prednisone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On Tuesday (15th) we were able to work outside getting leaves picked up. Another mess to deal with - but the yard looks really good.
On Wednesday (16th) I had another 5 hour infusion. No issues but he does not want to take any chances that there's still something inside that will attack again. Michael came down on Saturday the 19th to set up the wifi system at the ranch (for the RVers coming in). Debi came with him. After Lee and Michael got back home Michael made a decision to head to the San Antonio River Walk for lunch at the Lone Star Restaurant. He said this was to celebrate me being off prednisone. Fine with me. We had a great time!!!
We will be going to Debi's for Christmas so I got a turkey in the oven on Thursday (24th) to take with us. While that cooked, we went to storage to winterize the RV. We MAY have a freeze next week. In the meantime we're in the high 70's. Even reached the low 80's for a couple days. Love this kind of weather. Went to Debi's on Friday morning to exchange gifts and have lunch. What a fun day with lots and lots of love and laughs. One of the BEST sayings of the day came from Michael. He said the best part of that day was him and Austin had to drive there (about 5 miles). There was no flying to get here and only a few days to visit. This is now HOME!!!!
Bad weather is headed this way (rain/cold) for several days, so we decided to get our Christmas decorations put away (inside and out) on Saturday the 26th. Michael didn't have to work on Wednesday (30th) so he came down here for the day. He wanted to go out to the ranch in hopes of getting pictures of some critters. Didn't have much luck, but it was some good down time for him. Some more GOOD news. Austin starts work at Dell on Monday the 4th. I cannot tell you how happy we are that good things are finally happening over the last year for them.
Lee and I are both doing better except for the usual joint pains. I HOPE and PRAY that 2016 is a much better year for us medically!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please continue to keep us on your prayer list.
